Check out what the press have to say about the YNR

YNR 001: JEHST - Premonitions EP

"A lot of chump chimps are sitting there compactly thinking they're gods gift to the microphone but don't really know how high the creativity level is right now. This is how high. The way emceeing is currently connecting with spirituality is almost frightening in its mystery. 'Life imitating art' featuring lexis, is an awesome spine electrifying relentless ebb of higher learning lyricism."
Hip Hop Connection

"A cinematic sounding ep saturated in earth quaking beats...the young emcee’s lyrics drop time bombs in the ears of listeners ready to explode long after the listening experience has taken place."****

YNR 022: SIR SMURF LIL Outside b/w City Night Life

"Really incredible lyrics and Jehstís stumble-assed backwards beats suit the strangeness/surrealism perfectly."****
DJ Magazine

"He has his own sound going on, which puts him in good stead for the Myalpha long-player thatís on its way. Once again YNR are keeping things moving with another alternative release, creating a gust of fresh air about the scene. Production throughout this 12 is handled by Jehst, and heís done a mighty fine job, ensuring this sucker bangs in all the right places."

YNR 023/CD: SIR SMURF LIL Myalpha Double LP/CD

“…as promised the album ‘Myalpha’ is a work of genius. There’s a raw energy that permeates through the record and you’re aware that every verse is painstakingly analysed before Smurf spits his rhyme. At the same time it’s a fluid album built around a central narrative. He’s street smart but not negative, has a great flow and is one of the freshest emcees around. Production is mainly left in the capable hands of Jehst although LG and Apa-Tight take a track each. As the year-end gets closer ‘Myalpha’ is going to be a tough album to beat.”
HHC

“His tactic of soaking a bunch of fragmented missives on modern society in complex imagery makes this a truly enriching listen – by the end, we find him dreaming of escaping the metropolis on a “guardian starship”. Melancholic, yes, but who thought that could sound so dope?”****
HHC

“Smurf’s words are direct, each track strong in its delivery and immediate in its impact. Arise, Sir Smurf.”****
Touch

“On this debut album he performs the same verbal acrobatics as on previous singles lke ‘Outside’, pulling off track after track in a fresh and stimulating way. The soundtrack, created predominantly by Jehst (but also LG and Apa-Tight), is correspondingly bright and buoyant, and also surprisingly soulful. A genuine breath of fresh air.”
DJ Magazine

“He’s an incredibly versatile MC and “Myalpha” is a fine blueprint for this talent.”
Blues & Soul

“In a modern rap world that discourages emcees from experimenting with the art of lyricism, Smurf’s cryptic, broken language and multi-layered meanings are a joy to listen to. Forget The Da Vinci Code, it’s Sir Smurf Lil’s code that you really want to try and crack.”
Blues & Soul

YNR 024: SIR SMURF LIL Timothy b/w Ghetto Graduate

"On Timothy Sir Smurf Lil rips intriguingly ambivalent rhymes over an LG backdrop an odd mix of medieval folk psaltery, bumping heavy beats and squelchy swathes of bubble-dub synth. Essential. On the flip, Ghetto Graduate, Jehst pulls jazz out of the club and down the alleys, until it belches and gurgles with the combined filth of a whole cityís weekend wastage. Fantastic stuff."****
Single of the month
DJ Magazine

"Ghetto Graduate, a hard-hitting but brilliantly-written account of the difference between inner city friction and real misery. Timothy shows a similar lyrical acumen, Smurf reproaching himself for failing a friend who fell to drugs over LG's stipped-back drums. A reminder that great rappers come with both style and content."****
Touch

YNR 025: JEHST Dynamite Sound b/w Psychedelic Phlegm 12

"As always, Jehst brings his trademark multi-syllabic flow and intricate, imaginative metaphors on an uptempo joint bound to sound nice in either the club or your smoky front room relaxing with your mates...another slice of superior UK Hip Hop that keeps Jehst one of the UK's flagship MCs."****
Blues & Soul

YNR PROOCD1: THE COLONY Bootprints and Fistmarks: The Mixtape

"Cross collaboration with members of the NYC underground such as Killah Priest, Poison Pen, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Immortal Technique, not to mention the whole Colony crew and special guests."

YNR 029: LG presents - The Mission b/w What Would Happen?

"Truly astonishing stuff from LG - this is probably the psychedelic highlight of an ever-intriguing career. The blend of twinkling Rhodes, drone strings and twisted jazzbo-bass comes on like that precise moment (round about 'East Of The River Nile', I reckon) where Augustus Pablo started sounding like Can. Jehst & Micall Parknsun drop suberb verbals, as does Kashmere on the flip through the smoker's delight 'What Would Happen?'. Utterly fucking awesome." *****

YNR 030: KASHMERE - Raiders Of The Lost Archives

"If there's an ever-present danger on 'Raiders...' - well, other than Beelzebub, brain-burrowing metal centipedes and "devilish whippersnappers hitting grannies with the drop-kicks", that is - it's the threat of all the shadowy stuff eclipsing its author's obvious skill. Thankfully, tracks like 'Centre Of The Sun' (which features Jehst on both the boards and in the booth) temper things, and pearlers like "emcees get rearranged like Mr Potato Head" prove that Kash knows his way around a more grounded one-liner, even if his decision to reference gum-punishing Man United gaffer Alex Ferguson while describing his sexual prowess arguably won't have the girls hurrying for a cold shower. Still, it's the fact that he'd taunt his rivals with the barb "your brain works mad typically" that best summarises the appeal of this accomplished sophomore set." ****
